Standing Up for Oregon’s Veterans: A Commitment to Those Who Served

Brittany Jones, Democratic candidate for Governor of Oregon, brings lived experience to the fight for veterans’ rights and services. As a veteran herself, Brittany understands firsthand how gaps in the system leave too many behind. After her own service, she faced homelessness, unable to access certain housing programs because she had not served in a designated combat zone. Her story reflects a broader issue: eligibility rules and structural barriers that prevent veterans from receiving the support they need.

Brittany is committed to using the authority of the Governor’s office to ensure that no veteran in Oregon falls through the cracks. While federal programs like VA housing and disability benefits are critical, the state has a powerful role to play in filling gaps and expanding access.

As Governor, Brittany Jones will focus on:

Expanding State Level Veteran Housing Support:

Oregon can strengthen and expand state funded housing programs to ensure veterans who do not qualify for federal assistance still have access to safe, stable housing. This includes increasing funding for transitional housing, partnering with local organizations, and prioritizing veterans in state housing initiatives.

Improving Access to Mental Health Services:

With veteran suicide remaining a critical issue, Oregon must invest in accessible, culturally competent mental health care. The Governor can direct resources toward veteran specific crisis services, expand outreach programs, and ensure coordination between state agencies and community providers.

Strengthening Employment and Economic Opportunities:

Many veterans face barriers to stable employment. The state can expand job training programs, streamline licensing transfers for military skills, and incentivize businesses to hire veterans through state level initiatives.

Enhancing Coordination with Federal and Local Systems:

The Governor can improve how Oregon agencies work with federal VA programs and local nonprofits to ensure veterans are not lost in bureaucratic gaps. Better coordination means faster access to services and more effective support.

Advocating for Veterans at the State Level:

While federal decisions impact veterans nationwide, Oregon’s Governor can be a strong advocate by working with other states, raising concerns, and pushing for policies that protect veterans’ well being.

Brittany Jones believes that service to our country should be met with service in return. Her campaign is rooted in the belief that Oregon can, and must, do more to support those who have worn the uniform. Through practical, state level action, she is committed to building a system where every veteran has the opportunity to thrive.

No veteran should be left behind.
