Tackling Homelessness

As a candidate for Governor of Oregon, I recognize the epidemic of homelessness in our nation and the need for comprehensive programs to address this crisis. I understand that homelessness is not just a matter of lack of housing, but it is also a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. Therefore, I propose to implement the following policy initiatives to address homelessness:

1. Affordable Housing: The lack of affordable housing is one of the main causes of homelessness. Therefore, I will work to increase the availability of affordable housing by investing in the rehabilitation of old condemned and abandoned properties for housing units at an extremely affordable rate as a path to home ownership, not rental properties.

2. Homelessness Prevention: Preventing homelessness before it occurs is crucial to addressing this crisis. Therefore, I propose to provide resources and support to individuals and families at risk of homelessness, such as job training, financial assistance, and mental health services.

3. Supportive Services: Homelessness is often caused by underlying issues such as mental illness, addiction, and domestic violence. Therefore, I will work to increase funding for supportive services, such as mental health and addiction treatment, domestic violence shelters, and job training programs.

4. Collaborative Efforts: Addressing homelessness requires collaboration between federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. Therefore, I will work to facilitate partnerships between these entities to ensure that resources are being allocated
